To achieve the highest levels of student achievement within any course assessment, curriculum, and assessment must be in full alignment. That means that teachers should be teaching what they know will be on the test and should be using curriculum that will give students targeted practice with the topics that will be on the test.
This is not the same as "teaching to the test". By being in full alignment what I mean is that you are not wasting time teaching topics beyond the scope of the objectives themselves, freeing up time to teach only the material that is in alignment.
As educators we have no control over the state assessment, but we can control how we teach, and what we use to teach it. This is where Almighty Algebra Comes in. We ensure that 100% of the material you put in front of your students is 100% aligned to how it will appear on the end-of-course STAAR exam!
To demonstrate the Almighty Algebra Difference I will take you through our curriculum for standard 2A...
MA.A.2A
Determine the domain and range of a linear function in mathematical problems; determine reasonable domain and range values for real-world situations, both continuous and discrete; and represent domain and range using inequalities.
Not only is MA.A.2A a standard with low student achievement state-wide, but it is also a standard that teachers have a hard time teaching and finding adequate and aligned material for.
The questions on this page focus on expressing relations in various forms. While this is an important pre-requisite skill, too much focus is put on these question types and not enough on how the questions will actually be presented on the test.
For example-
Look at how many questions assess students on the domain and range of ordered pairs on this page alone. Eight out of eighteen questions. But ho
Question #19 - 28 are assessing topics that are not only not tested, but are not even a part of the Algebra I curriculum.
Questions #29 - 31 ask students to convert various relations to a set of ordered pairs. This is an 8th grade Pre-Algebra skill and will not be tested anywhere on the Algebra I STAAR.
Once again, the questions on this page are just not aligned.
The last 5 questions are labeled as "higher-order thinking problems" but what is the point in going higher if you're still not asking questions aligned to what is being tested?
We
Every skill that has ever been tested under domain 2A will appear on this worksheet. Not only are all skills assessed, but there are enough problems to achieve sufficient practice of each skill. Questions are rigorous and 100% aligned to how they are asked on the end-of-course STAAR exam.
